A mentor presented me with a journal adorned with the words, “Allah Bless You,” igniting a fierce passion for writing within me. This journal became a sacred space where I could pour my heart out. Within its pages, I discovered solace, reflecting on the rich tapestry of my life’s journey and the invaluable lessons learned along the way, urging me to dive deep into the mesmerizing intricacies of language and emotion.

The chapbook aims to create a deconstructed self-portrait that reflects both my individual and collective family histories, providing an emotional perspective on the intertwining of race, class, and gender with my childhood experiences. By weaving personal narratives with broader societal concerns, I aimed to create voices that resonate with the human experience, encouraging empathy and action in the face of adversity.
